ARCTIC MONKEYS – AM (2013)
The Final Vinyl.
So it’s come to this: the last weekend in September.
What record do you play for the biggest game of the year?
Do I go for the classics…The Beatles, The Stones or Dylan??
Well, I’ve stuck with a somewhat modern theme and have selected Arctic Monkeys’ latest album ‘AM’ as my finalist.
A modern classic rock album from the biggest rock band in the world at the moment.
The lads from Sheffield have really stepped up their game up with ‘AM’, particularly lyrically. I love the cheeky line from ‘Why’d You Only Call Me When You’re High? : ‘The mirrors’ image tells me it’s home time’. Who hasn’t been in that position?
Also that opening riff from ‘Do I Wanna Know?’ melts me every time.
With other hits ‘R U Mine’, ‘One For The Road’, ‘Arabella’ and ‘Snap Out Of It’, my prediction is that ‘AM’ is a classic album in waiting and will be looked back upon as one of the greats… Like this weekend’s final between Sydney & Hawthorn – two juggernauts of the modern game, it’s going to be a cracker.
My tip is Sydney. The Bondi Billionaires have had a great run with injuries and look absolutely primed, with talent to burn on every line. Sheer fire power should get the win for them.
